Robbie Renu, as a specialist horticulturalist for living roofs and green walls, was brought in by the local Council on their Marrickville Community Nursery Project to erect a Green Wall.
NOTE: This project has since been closed
The Marrickville Community Nursery was used to provide quality, locally sourced native tubestock plants to the residents of the inner west of Sydney.
The Council says :
“In partnership with the community, the Marrickville Community Nursery seeks to be a centre for Biodiversity of the Lower Cooks River Valley, protecting, conserving and promoting the diversity of species and natural habitats of the area. Many of the plants grown are used for native vegetation restoration projects such as those undertaken by Marrickville Landcare Group, Councils, schools and other Government projects”
With mounting pressure on our remaining remnant bushland, it is hard to source and propagate understory species from endangered vegetation communities
The green wall was located on 142 Addison Road, Marrickville , Sydney, NSW. It is now closed.
Using a green wall for propagating is a cost effective way to increase the production of seed and cutting material.
The plants are always at hand and can be monitored easily without the costly trips to remnant bushland.
While it is preferable to get species diversity through a maximum number of base plants, the greenwall minimizes the risk of missing ripened seed.
