Stages for the Drummoyne Meadow Garden

Site analysis:
The area for this front yard is 25m sq. The garden faces west and has a slight gradient to the road. The soil is a clay loam. A Gordonia and Acer palmatum have been left near the fence.

Climate/Aspect:
This garden is well serviced by sun light in summer and winter. The garden receives moisture from rain. Warm summers cool winters. Perfect spot for a meadow garden.

Function:
The garden is to display colour and brighten up the street.Drummoyne Meadow Garden Stage 1 image

Water:
Water is applied by a sprinkler in the summer months and when required.

Construction :
The old lawn was dug out along with some of the onion weed. Sprayed twice to rid of the ground of weeds. We left the area to sit to observe what weeds where coming through and dug out Oxalis and Onion weed bulbs. Compost was added and lightly dug in.

Installation:
Plants were planted and a light leaf mulch added. We wanted this garden to self-sow and thicken up so heavy mulching is not recommended. Sandstone flagging was use for stepping stones.

Planting:

The plants are sourced from local native nurseries. They are predominately Sydney local species with the addition of Kangaroo paws.
All the plants have been tube stock size.

Drummoyne Meadow Garden Stage 2 imageEstablishment Maintenance and the follow up:
Follow up weeding has been essential, as the onion weed is still present- although it is manageable at this stage.
We have added some more plants to replace the few that have failed.
All the plants seem to be fully established and we are waiting for some warmer weather to see it really flourish.
This garden will require a seasonal visit for maintenance.
